The Fundamentals Program is Ronin Athletics’ core curriculum. It was developed by Christian Montes, head coach and founder as a way to teach MMA from a unified approach (Gestalt Theory). His theory is based on a holistic approach to learning combat sports. With professional level experience in the individual disciplines of MMA, his carefully chosen techniques, drills and exercises were combined to compliment one another as a basis for one’s MMA Training.

The goal of our Fundamentals Program is to build a strong foundation in all 3 phases of combat: Stand up, Clinch and Ground, so that a new student may feel comfortable and acquainted with the techniques and training methodologies that he/she will encounter in MMA training. Through our Fundamentals MMA training program the student will familiarize his/herself with each dimension of MMA and begin to develop themselves in areas that come naturally to them (Kickboxing, BJJ, Submission Grappling and Wrestling) and slowly form their individual ‘game’ or MMA fighting style. Specialized classes are then offered to compliment the students training, allowing them focused training in the combat phase they wish to improve.

An emphasis on developing a methodical approach to training along with proper rapport through technique drills and progressive resistance training with a partner is encouraged. While MMA competitions appear to focus on the fighter, there is a team behind the fighter that provided the motivation and safe competitive energy that contributes towards his/her development.

Open Mat

Open mat training is a crucial part of our student’s development. Unlike most academy’s that churn out back-to-back classes, we feel technical skills can only be developed through free form practice. Much like ‘lab’ class in high school, Open Mat allows our students to test out techniques and cultivate their creativity with one another.

Open mat sessions are supervised by senior members of the Gym.
