RONIN ATHLETICS was recently featured in an article by Matthew Lynch for COLUMBIA News Service.

On a recent rainy Saturday afternoon at Ronin Athletics, a mixed martial arts school in Midtown Manhattan, Ruthie Niebla, 26, punched a padded wall target. She had just spent an hour in Kickboxing 101, sparring with a man much larger than her who was sporting sleeves of tattoos. The day’s workout hadn’t exactly been non-contact, which was to her liking.
“If I don’t feel the pain, then I’m not going to defend,” said Niebla, who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and 140 pounds. “Everyone’s too concerned with not hitting the only girl here today.”

The NBC show, 1st/Look:NY recently visited Ronin Athletics to do a segment on training MMA as an alternative to a regular gym workout.
They’re featuring the gym, have shot interview footage of Christian, and also had him teach, train, and lightly spar with one of their correspondents.
Also featured in the segment will be some class footage from the Kickboxing 101 & MMA Fundamentals classes.
The show is going to air this Saturday, January 25th on NBC-4 @ 7:30pm.

Straight Blast Gym President & Founder, Matt Thornton, will be holding a two-day Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Seminar at RONIN ATHLETICS!
Dates: Saturday Jan. 19th and Sunday Jan. 20th.
Times: 11am-5pm (with a lunch break).

We had another great showing at the Grapplers Quest North American Championships on Oct. 6th 2007, with Ronin Athletics students taking home 2 Golds and 2 Slivers.
Alex Horowitz and Rodney LeConte both took first place in their divisions.
Josh Bonacci and Carlo Chan both took second place and Samir (our blue belt friend visiting from Belgium) took 3rd place in his first time ever competing no-gi at the Intermediate division.
Ryan Elsasser took fourth place after an impressive number of wins in his first ever tournament.
Honorable mention also goes out to:

Roger Dardas (competed in both mens & Intermediate ABSOLUTE division)
