Congratulations to Trevor Sroka, Mike Letang, and Sidney Negron, for competing and placing this past Sunday, 10/21 @ the Real Submission Grappling Open Tournament in New Jersey.

Trevor and Mike took first and second place, respectively, in the same Men’s Beginner division.

Sidney took 2nd place in the Teens division and also competed in the Adult Beginner division, going 1-2.

The NYC Limited Grappling Championship was held this past Sunday, June 10th in NYC @ FightHouse (our former home :) Ronin Athletics had a couple of competitors who placed and others who did extremely well. Some were competing in Submission Wrestling for the very first time and others were testing themselves in a higher skill division. Congratulations to everyone that competed! A special nod to:

Earlier this year in February, we had Pro MMA fighter, Dean Jones of London-Pancrase stop by to train with us during a business trip to NYC. Dean recently informed us that he made his return to the MMA cage this past weekend at The Ultimate Warrior Challenge, held on June 2nd in Essex, England. Dean won his match via Kimura from the Guard in the final round. Congratulations Dean! hope to see you again later this fall.

We also had the pleasure of training with Jason Van Oijen, a Muay Thai amateur fighter and coach from Holland. Jason, also in the U.S. on business not only worked out with us, but was also kind enough to teach two very energetic and technical kickboxing classes during one of weeks when I was feeling under the weather. Our thanks to both Jason and Dean, looking forward to a return visit from both. Cheers!

Congratulations to Ronin Athletics’s own, Erik Ryerson, on his recent promotion to Purple Belt by BJJ Black Belt Dave Ginsberg.

Erik has been training with us for nearly 4 years and is our resident Gi specialist. He has also been training with Mr. Ginsberg through the NYU BJJ club, formerly run and founded by Mike Harmon, himself also a Purple belt under Dave Ginsberg. Make sure you congratulate him by giving him an extra tough roll next time you see him on the mats :)

Congratulations to everyone who competed at the last NAGA World’s tournament last month out at the Jersey City Armory!!

We had a nice turnout and good showing overall on the mats with a some sound victories, exciting defeats during the long, but fun day.

A special nod to Alex Horowitz (2nd place), Roger Dardas (3rd place), and Dan Dillon (4th place) who placed in the top 4 of the same division comprised of 30+ competitors! No-Gi Beginner Middlewieght Very exciting matches filled submissions (RNC by Alex and Triangles by Roger and Dan Dillon), great positional dominance and exciting transitional play.
